It goes, I think, in some part, to my being a GenY-er girl, that I’ve never really before now taken much more than a passing interest in our elections. I’ve gone in the past because it was compulsory and voted according to the last television advertisement I remembered seeing. I’m not especially proud of my ambivalence, but there it is.

However, that’s changed this election.

I was proud to mark my boxes yesterday and last night I turned on the television to watch the broadcast results as soon as it began. I watched it keenly. Even Adam, who regards politics as the perfect form of analgesic, kept half an ear out for the latest breaking news.

Australia needed a change. We got it. Good.
