View from unit

This is the view of our holiday unit on the first day we arrived at the beach.

wet weather

This is pretty much what it has looked like ever since.

But never mind, we’ve taken advantage of the brief periods of sunshine in between. Down at the shore, Keira ‘surfs’ on the boogie board (with dad holding her up) and builds sandcastles, and Riley looks wistfully at the older boys playing cricket further along the sand; his envy not enough to conquer his shyness when I suggest her goes over and offers to play, too. “No” he mumbles, so one day we borrowed my cousins’ set and we went down, in a howling north-westerly wind, and played; I swear, this has been one of the happiest times I’ve ever seen my son enjoy.

Keira, even with our constant application of sunscreen, is turning a slight brown – a definite show of her father’s genetics there, not mine. I, like my son, go a lovely red – not that we’ve had much of an opportunity yet.

I have been getting a lot of reading done though, so it’s a perfect holiday in that respect!
