Thanks to everyone who sent me birthday messages on the weekend, either here or elsewhere. You all made me feel really special. It has been a bumpy year and I don’t think I would’ve made it without the support of many of you.

So. To birthday loot.

I was lucky enough to get the below books:

BestofAusEssaysBestofAusPoemsBestofAusStories

I get the complete set every couple of years (last seen here) and I’m looking forward to getting to read them all properly as opposed to flicking through a few pages before I fall into an exhausted sleep, which is what I have been doing.

And again I chickened out of getting a full-on pixie haircut – like I’ve been threatening to for years – and just got a boring trim:

Yes, there’s Riley, and that’s how he looks today. His lips are 75% better than what they were, but I am beginning to suspect that there will be a permanent mark left on the chin. How much it marks might be dependant on how much cream I can get on there without him immediately rubbing it off. So far it’s only been at night once he’s asleep.

(Aw, but look at that face. He’ll be adorable no matter what.)

Thanks again are in order for those of you who left messages of support and sympathy the other day when I talked about the accident. I appreciate it.
