wedding, 14th December 2002

This is one of my favourite photos from our wedding day. It is almost certainly the most candid one. We were walking back from having the formal shots being taken up on the headland; it was about a million degrees and I, for one, was looking forward to getting back to the guests, eating, loosening up my cheek muscles by not having to smile every second, and also having a drink.

As we walked to the entrance of the surf club (lovely views from which can be seen here), I didn’t realise the photographer was waiting for us up the top. I was concentrating on negotiating my way up the steps in my 200 kilogram dress – seriously, it was heavy- when suddenly I heard the words, “Look up! Smile!”

Snap!

And, presto, there it is.

Best of all, in the BBQ sheds behind, as we walked past, those people on their own happy Saturday afternoon, clapped and whistled their congratulations to us as we passed.

Happy anniversary, Ad. I love you.
