Christmas Day 2009

1. Keira practising on her new scooter. Riley also got one, but I haven’t gotten a photo of him on his yet. Funny, Keira is more confident on this than her bike; Riley is the opposite.

2. This is Riley’s loop-the-loop Hot Wheels, which he adores.

3. This is me pondering my next move of The Amazing Mammoth Hunt. It’s a game based around world geography which I bought at Australian Geographic.

Amazing Mammoth Hunt

This is what it looks like.

It’s really quite good, actually, as there are officially 2-games-in-1, but even those rules can be fudged. As is traditionally the case when we have Christmas at our house, my sister and have an all-out war over who is board game supremo, and this year was no different…

4. …as you can see here. Every token is to be celebrated and flaunted in your opponent’s face!

5. Here’s a close-up of the board.

6. This is another game they got (it officially came in Riley’s Santa sack, but Keira likes to forget such trivialities). They adore it. In fact, Riley likes it so much he cries whenever we make him turn it off to do other important things; things such as sleeping and going to the toilet.

Guess Who Extra

It will take a fair bit of playing before it gets ‘old’ because the inserts are interchangeable. So there are lots of scenarios and a variety of questions to be asked and thought of. As Adam read this he will be patting himself on the back, because this was his present pick and, I must admit, it was a good one.

My big present was…an iPhone. I almost cried when I saw it. That sentence dismays my inner anti-consumer (and it does dwell within), but I couldn’t help myself. Perhaps it’s because in its latent state it still evokes a sense of practicality and purpose; streamlined efficiency and sheer prettiness. It might later turn out to be just another tool for procrastination, but I hope not. I really hope not.

How was your Christmas?
