I really should change that title to say, ‘Writing her first short story for a competition’. Keira has been coming home for a while now with ‘learning stories’ written in class, which have basically been re-counts of what they’ve done on certain special curriculum days. I thought this was her first attempt, but I could be wrong. Why’s that? Because look at the ‘B’ ‘M’ ‘End’.

Beginning, Middle, End.

Have you been learning about how stories are constructed in class? I asked, amazed.

She nodded.

I was impressed and still am. The results being she sat down and planned her story, as you see above.

She already knows what it took me over another decade to learn: it helps to plan and know the end of the story before you begin it!

The finished product has gone in the mail without (thankfully) too much pent-up expectation and anxiety on her part about how it goes.

(That’s the part of the process where I could perhaps take a leaf out of her book ;))
