I’ve been spiking a fever for the past three days, in a week which has seen Melbourne experience high humidity levels. This might bother me (well, the fever does) but the humidity? Not really. Well, all right. I’ve had the air conditioner going. You got me.

Hang on, to clarify: I’ve had it on except at night. Despite my sweats, I’ve been sleeping under a sheet, a blanket, and a doona. Adam woke up this morning, felt my side of the sweat-soaked bed with his hand and went, “Damn, woman.” That’s Adam parlance for, “You poor dear, of course I’ll take a day off work to nurse you.”

Well – no it’s not. Because he didn’t*.

Anyway! Speaking of my husband, he’s started seeing my personal trainer. His overall aerobic health is excellent, really. He rides into work into the city at least twice a week. His main goal for the training is to improve his core strength, which makes me feel slightly superior because core strength has always been one of my… well… strengths. (Forgive that – I’m sick) So I wish him well in his quest to become a mightier man and will take this opportunity to remind him that we have two young volunteers to rub cream into his sore joints should the need arise.

Segue! I went to the doctor yesterday and got the confirmation that I had a viral infection. That’s what I thought I had, but still had to ask – as I had similar symptoms – if in fact I wasn’t having a relapse of Henoch-Schonlein purpura, which I was diagnosed with as a child. I felt silly asking and felt even sillier when his eyebrows lifted that little bit which, if we were going to measure it on Mary Poppins’ special measuring tape would read, “have patience, for patients will be trying.”

“No, it’s not that,” he said.

“Well, yes, I thought so except the internet said it can strike again in adults…”

This time I could see it in his face – the why did they invent the internet? look.

So that brings us up to now, where the day stretches before us and I will be saying rousingly to the kids, “Who’s up for a Harry Potter movie marathon?! Yes! Yes! It will be great.” And I may get some rest.

*But he did work from home yesterday. YES, DEAREST, I REMEMBER.
