I don’t like to make hard and fast rules when working with brands, companies or campaigns, but if I had to boil down my philosophy to a specific phrase it would be this: products are great, but experiences are better.
By ‘experience’ I mean getting out, seeing new places and things, tasting, listening, and exploring. Opening myself to opportunities I mightn’t otherwise have.
This is why I said yes when I was approached to be a Malaysia Kitchen Ambassador.
This campaign is world-wide and seeks to increase the awareness of Malaysian cuisine. It’s something I was interesting in learning more about myself. The other week I went to LaksaMe with my fellow state ambassadors and after the delightful – bounteous! – dinner were treated to a sit-down talk from chef Alan Woo. It was at this part of the evening when I pulled my pen out to write down his words, absorb his enthusiasm, smile at his philosophy that “(my) job is to educate… for cuisine is the backbone of the community.”
So over the next couple months, I’ll be doing the occasional restaurant review.
I’m looking forward to it.
“Eat with knowledge,” says Alan.
I hope to.
And keep your eye out for more reviews by fine Victorian bloggers: Candice, Christine, Jolie, Carly, Megan and Kylie.
