Clown Book Week CostumeBook Week Costume - princess

These are the only photos I’ve managed to upload of Book Week from when I was in primary school, although there are many others still back at mum’s house. I was proudest most of all of my Dorothy costume from the Wizard of Oz, complete with flashy red shoes (not pictured). From memory, the clown was from Year 4 and the princess, I’m not sure, but I am quite young so perhaps Kindergarten or Year One.

Keira’s school hasn’t done a parade – at least while we’ve been there – and this both saddens me and is cause for relief! I’m not nearly as crafty as my mother (she made those outfits). Still – I get the feeling Keira would want to go as Hermoine from the latter Harry Potter books/films, when they aren’t in school but out in the world chasing horcruxes. So she would be in jeans, with a wand tucked into her back pocket. I would be perfectly fine with this.

On a related note, I’m doing a Book Week talk tomorrow. I’m quite excited! Shows also just how lucky I am. I still pinch myself, especially when I see Surprise! on a list of wonderful books about books.

Are your children dressing up for Book Week? Who/What are they going as?
