Riley’s school orientation for next year (gulp!) has officially begun.

He is not happy about it.

While I want this post to be of the ‘we’re aware and supportive and will do our utmost to make him okay with the whole scenario’ ilk, I’m afraid that really it’s going to be ‘I’ve just done the ugly cry in reaction to his spontaneous crying session in front of his preschool friends’. Somehow, sometime over the past few weeks, he has gone from being excited about the idea of school next year to being anxious and troubled. I realise many kids might go through something similar and for all I know he will wake up tomorrow fine! Completely fine!

But I’m thinking more about what I can do to help him today.

First thing I think I’ll do is stop mentioning school unless necessary because he’s getting a lot of talk about it from other people (“School! Big School! How do you feel about that buddy!? Don’t mean to be in your face about it, I’m just making conversation! Does it upset you? Oh, okay, I’ll stop now”).

I’m writing this on the hop, so to speak, in the spirit of true-I’ve-made-the-committment-damn-the-quality-nablopomo-madness. My thoughts, as you might deduce from the previous paragraphs, are distracted and only partially ordered. My nanowrimo writing has been slowly happening, which is heartening to see (I CAN WRITE SOMETHING OTHER THAN BLOG POSTS, part of my brain wants to shout), but I’ll talk more about that another day.

So in sum: *sigh*

How’s your day been so far?

If you are participating in NaBloPoMo leave your name and link URL for the day in Mr Linky. If you’ve blogged about your NaNoWriMo or PiBoIdMo experiences you are welcome to leave your link as well. Please only use the Linky for these reasons and a link back here would be appreciated.

I’m supporting Movember this month. Here is my fundraiser page.
