I’ve had this bike for years now and the number of times it’s been out and used wouldn’t even hit double-digits. I’m somewhat ashamed of this statistic, considering how often Adam rides his bike into the city and the zeal with which many friends and colleagues use theirs on a daily basis.

I wanted this situation to change this year and took the first steps the other week by getting a basket installed (or ‘mounted’? I have trouble with the cycling verbiage, as you can see) which not only is extremely handy but extremely heavy and I have to be careful to not overload it. Who? Sook? Me? Never!

But wait, it continues: today, I walked the kids to school, did my reader duty, then unhooked the bike lock to ride to the local library to do some writing: part of my day off routine. However, once I got to the library, I discovered I’d not put away the bike lock key properly; it must have bounced out of the basket between the school and the library. So I had to come home instead. Grr! Frustrating.

As you can see, my success rate isn’t what you’d consider high at this point. But I will work on it. I figure the longer I can keep the car in the garage, the more I get used to being mobile on two wheels, the easier it will be.

Any bike riders out there with tips? I’m all ears.

P.S My thanks to everyone who commented on my work/life balance post the other day. It was one of those post that actually spilled over to my IRL friends and parents, and I must admit it was nice to continue those conversations face to face. Blogging, while serving a specific and valuable purpose, still, can feel like its bridges a gap some days and on others only shows how wide some divides are.
