I come from an extended family that is naturally curious and genuinely interested about the world. Case in point, my mother has been giving to my grandfather the same present at Christmas for years: a subscription to both Australian Geographic and National Geographic – while treating herself to the same, for good measure.

If you were raised in a similar household as I was, you also might be familiar with this sight: a stack of those magazines in a corner or cupboard somewhere with their lovely golden or white glossy covers promising delights within. I’ve been known to have cut up a magazine (or a dozen…) in my time when putting together visual boards for my writing – particularly the fantasy novels – and they’ve been very handy.

This is why I can’t help smiling a little when I go through the travel and food magazine subscription section at Magshop. So many memories! So much to see and eat!

Speaking of travelling, and if you are considering the likelihood of perhaps getting an online subscription for Mother’s Day, here is a little more about that competition and the prize details.

 australian good food

Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? And looking at the cover of this week’s Australian Good Food magazine, I might end up being a lucky girl. As Adam has the World’s Biggest Sweet Tooth, I too might be waking up on Mother’s Day with a card and a little subscription note tucked inside. Just your normal, ‘hint hint’ moment. Well, sorry, dearest: you bought it, you bake it. They’re my new rules.

(I don’t think I’ve ever told you all about the year Keira was born, a mere week or so before Mother’s Day, and guess what I got? Go on, guess. Flowers? Jewellery? A foot spa and a spicy curry made for me?

Nope.

Nothing!

As you can tell, my husband hasn’t quite lived that one down. He may yet… one day.)

This post is the second out of three (one to come) that has been sponsored by the Magshop Mother’s Day Present Promotion.
