I’m sitting here at the kitchen table. I have the radio turned on at a companionable level; I can hear the clothes dryer rumbling away, with the occasional rattle as a zip or button hits the edges. The children have been deposited safely to school and I have a list as long as my arm of things to do.

But here I am, sitting. Not moving. Blinking. Moving fingers over the keyboard. Another blink. Contemplating food. Avoiding the temptation to go back to bed. Wanting to pick up a book. Wanting to write.

Too tired to do anything.

Other than blink, and be here.

As ever, I wish I’d taken more photos during the festival (it’s over – it was extraordinary – Lisa Dempster is one of my heroes – the entire team of staff were amazing – more to come later) but a few are below:

Page Parlour at Federation Square

RRR radio – talking about blogging and the masterclass

Rue Bebelons – Festival Hub and one of my favourite places to hang out

It was a dry festival for me – up until last night, at least!

Yes

I made the spelling bee final – only to be undone by the word ‘fluorescent’ . Spelling on the hand worked for overall winner Tully Hansen, but not for me, alas! Picture by Lisa Dempster on Instagram. Hosted by the inimitable Karen Pickering

Before I sign off, I want to thank my mother for coming down to assist me during the festival. I didn’t make this public but Adam was away for work for a good chunk of it and I couldn’t have made it through without her help.

*’After the Fact’ is the title of my piece in The Emerging Writer – available now – and seems as fitting today as it ever could be.
