As is the case in many suburbs around the country, our local DVD rental shop recently closed down. I think many businesses these days can’t afford the rents to sustain the large, cavernous commercial spaces needed to house all those DVDs. Especially when smaller, more accessible operations are popping up instead.

Enter from stage right, Oovie.

Oovie Machine

We’ve been renting our movies from our local Oovie dispenser machine for a while now. Adam discovered it first, liking how they were a) cheaper than typical new releases and b) more convenient. A swipe of your credit card and you’re done. The selection is pretty rounded too, titles for all ages, and its a pretty unlucky day when you discover that the machine is out of the particular movie you wanted (not unlike a store, actually).

When Oovie gave me a credit voucher to go spend, it was lucky that I could go and spend it on my own, as Adam was out of town with the kids. I’ve not had free reign on choice for ages. So I picked the movie I wanted to watch the most AND that I knew Adam would want to watch the least. It was this one.

Adam’s care factor: zero.

In retrospect, incredible as it was, perhaps I should’ve picked a movie with more of a happier tone and less of a ‘we’re all going to die’ theme. I wandered around the house after it was finished at a bit of a loss. Then again, I probably would’ve if I wasn’t alone either.

But to business!

For those of you who are wondering, here is a map where you can locate your nearest Oovie machine. This will come in handy when you read the below section because…

… thanks to their generosity, Oovie have a very special giveaway for readers: a $350 Oovie gift card especially for movie redemption. That’s a lot of nights in where your entertainment costs are well and truly covered!

Read below for further details.

Terms and Conditions:

1. One entry per person. Australian residents only.
2. Competition closes at midnight Friday 20th July (Eastern Australian Time) and I will contact the winner shortly thereafter.

Good luck!

Also, if you’re super keen to give it a go and are looking for a something to ride out the holidays, Oovie have an offer open to everyone at the moment: a winter 2-for-1 special.
