In an effort to read the posts I mark ‘Saved for Later’ in Feedly, in what I hope will turn into a regular feature I’ll be pulling out the best, most interesting, weird, disturbing, compelling, important or all of the above to share with you.
Was Rita Hayworth’s picture really stuck to the side of the first atom bomb? Orson Welles said so, and now apparently it’s been verified.
25 Movies by Female Directors Every Aspiring Filmmaker Should See. I’m not an aspiring filmmaker (anymore), but even so I’m sad to report I’ve not seen any of these.
Now 40 Trashy Novels You Must Read Before You Die will come to no surprise to anyone who’s been keeping up with my 1001 Book Challenge. (I added 1001 Movies now, have you seen?!) Although some are deserving to be there, there are others that I would challenge to be classified as ‘trash’. How many have I read? Oh … *looks around vaguely* … a few. My copy of My Sweet Audrina is very, very well-loved, put it that way!
Jason Stackhouse Is ‘True Blood’s’ Greatest Creation is a bold claim, but one that has legs (fangs?). I say this as someone who’s a True Blood fan, but has virtually abandoned the latest season: Rutger Hauer aside, the preposterous plots could always be tolerated because at the core you always sensed that there was at least some kind of plan. This season it feels like they’ve put a bottle of Tru Blood in the microwave for too long – it’s exploded, and we’re watching the result.
But back to Jason – he’s been tested, and shown enough growth (more than virtually anyone else) over the show’s duration to be arguably the best character. But is he the greatest creation? I’m a bit more ‘Team Lafayette’.
And last, if you’ve been on the internet at all this past week you’ve probably heard this, but if not it’s a treat. Here’s Dolly Parton’s Joelene slowed down by 25%. I’ve been listening to it on a loop. Think it’ll sound weird? No.
