It’s now officially spring! Hooray!

Another thing that’s special about September is that it’s almost October – and this October is the fifth anniversary of the release of Surprise! Can you believe it? Five years. Incredible.

Over that time, I’ve seen it on bookshelves around the country (and overseas) – in libraries, and in the home. I’ve seen pictures, videos, done talks; I’ve heard tales from librarians of children returning copies with the back pocket fat with drawings. I’ve read tales on blogs, seen Instagrams.

And they are all wonderful.

The other week, I caught up with illustrator Kim Fleming in the city and we both couldn’t get over how quickly the time had passed, and how much has happened. She is a wonderful, warm, talented woman and I’m so glad she said yes to my adventurous not-so-little project all those years ago.

Together, we also signed some copies of Surprise!. This is pretty exciting – and rare – as only those people who came to the book launch to get their copies signed can say they’ve got one the same.

(Incidentally, having gone through my archives, I’ve realised I never wrote a proper post about how that launch went; there’s no photos, nothing. This is because dad’s MND diagnosis came two days later and I was reeling from that.)

And so, I have a limited number of  specially signed copies of Surprise! available for zero postage. Just for you – if you’ve always wanted to buy a copy, or if your existing copy is getting worn from all the reading (it’s happened!) then this is for you. Get in QUICK!

Thank you to everyone who’s supported me over the years. I love and appreciate you all. x

And today I’m re-writing the next picture book. It’s almost ready. Timing, eh?!
