Hello! I’ve popped back in today to do my regular reading feature, because I can’t help myself. Will be back in proper capacity soon x

what I'm reading october

I knew the title A Young Doctor’s Notebook was familiar, and not just because it was written by Bulgakov, whose The Master and Margarita I really enjoyed, but also because Notebook has been made into a television series with Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe (oh, my). The trailer is a lot of fun:

(Incidentally Radcliffe’s favourite novel is The Master and Margarita, so I read in an interview once, so he gets another 10 points for… oh, nearly said Gryffindor. 10 points for WINNING IN TASTE then.)

I’m about a quarter of the way through Our Man in Havana. I feel like a traitor when I say this, I love his writing so much, I really do, but I find him hard to finish sometimes. The Quiet American was the one last I did (and amazing to boot), so I will keep up my persistence.

I met Walter Mason a year ago and he is one of the kindest, gentlest, most observant and receptive people I’ve ever met. Such a lovely soul. So prolific too – I’ve watched him during festivals, writing page after page of notes in a journal, always thinking. Destination Cambodia is his latest release and I’m hoping to pick up some travel writing inspiration/tips. It’s such a contestable area in writing – many people loathe it as a genre, whereas others find it the most enjoyable to read. I’m a relative newcomer, so need to read a lot more before I’m able to make an informed judgement.

What are you reading this month – almost November! How did that happen?
