Remember my goals for 2013? It’s okay if you don’t – truth be told, I had to go back and refresh my memory as to what they were. Luckily, I put them in a handy (albeit scratchily drawn) infographic, so here they are again.

2013 Resolutions

Looking at these now the first feeling I get is of slight disappointment; this may or may not be justified, because the year took a new direction that I hadn’t anticipated – namely, teaching. It’s been delightful and rewarding, but like all new jobs (not the mention my existing Emerging Writers’ Festival role, up until I finished in July) there was a little settling in period, which is normal. Blogging is my world as much as writing is – if not more so – and I’ve learned along the way that the only way that I’ll be able to achieve both points 1 AND 2 is by deliberate convergence.

What about the rest? Well, hmm. If you consider my fondness for Candy Crush, then I really, really need to work on point 7. The others can be marked in a ‘decision pending’ column, meaning there have been some wins and some losses along the way.

2013 has been a very hard year for a lot of loved ones of mine, and so in a personal sense – setting aside the work aspects I’ve mentioned above – I realise that I have very little to quibble about. Riley’s broken arm in Hong Kong and his chicken pox, plus a few winter lurgies we all fell for, was the extent of the ill health in our house. And with my breast lumps being cysts and nothing worse, I am very, very thankful. Perspective is key.

Tell me about your year. How do you feel about it? Satisfied? Or not?
