(Apart from reading a similar tower of books like this, which looks awfully tempting.)
Those of you familiar with my running past will know that apart from not being very fast – albeit persistent – I also suffered the misfortune of a sacroiliac joint strain late last year. It was a nagging, painful injury and I began personal training in order to strengthen my body as insurance against the same thing happening again.
I think you probably know where I’m heading with this…
The long run for my marathon training program was set for 19kms on the weekend, but due to the rain I decided to run it on the treadmill (bad decision #1 – treadmill running set off my SiJ problem last time). I hopped off at the end quite sore, but stretched a lot. Not enough though, or the damage had already been done, because by yesterday I was in agony. A visit to the Osteo made it worse (I’m starting to ask myself if an Osteo is even worth the effort), and by 2am this morning I had to be carried to the toilet by Adam as I nearly fainted with pain trying to get there by myself.
Anyway! So this is me now!
(I absolutely did NOT have to Google ‘how to make a sign of the horns’ because that would be lame.)
Bed rest – in between periods when I’m trying to get back on my feet again – frustrates me. I hate it. My mother is visiting at the moment and is helping with the kids, and thank goodness, because they can turn ‘Hunger Games’ on each other, especially in school holidays. Working is fine, but what else. Here’s what I do when I want to procrastinate I need some welcome distraction.
Watch TED Talks
Start with this ’11 must sees’ playlist if you’re new to TED talks.
Catch up on Podcasts
Truth be told, I don’t listen to a lot of Podcasts; I’ve even deleted the Podcast app from my iPhone on occasion, not seeing the point of keeping it on there. I’m slowly coming around (I listened to one during a dentist visit the other week), but I do like it when they’re also available to stream directly from the ‘net as well. I enjoy The Rereaders and So You Want to be a Writer and I’ve been meaning to check out The Moth.
And, look, while I’m putting it out there, if anyone wants to start up a ‘Tom Hiddleston and Michael Fassbender Appreciation and Adoration’ podcast consider me very interested. It’ll be totes cultural…and edifying… like, yeah.
YouTube
Yes, it’s the ultimate procrastinator’s tool and walkthrough heaven for all the gaming cheaters out there (*hand up*), but if you’ve ever needed a mood pick-me-up, I’m sure you’ve hit YouTube.
Here are some of our favourites:
Adam and Riley love the Simple Cooking Channel. Here’s a recent recipe, that dovetails so well into our family goal for the year of making the biggest chocolate chip cookie.
Keira loves Steve Kardynal (who doesn’t?)
I enjoy Marie Forleo’s videos; I also like listening to Danielle LaPorte (I wish I had her voice!). So when they get together it’s extra enjoyable and motivating.
What am I forgetting? What do you do when you’re on bedrest?
Check in and say hello!
