Let me begin by talking about desks.

Back when we were at university in Bathurst (yes, this is how far I’m going back!), Adam bought a second-hand table from a charity shop that was located just behind his flat. This table wasn’t much to look at – a utilitarian, boring, commercial piece that would look at home in any cubicle or office. It was also heavy, thanks to the amount of inbuilt metal shelving, so it was just as well we didn’t have far to drag it back to his place.

With the assistance of a screwdriver and a bit of patience, Adam removed the all the panels and bits, eventually leaving with a very light and – best of all – very large table. I loved sitting at it, at first for gaming, because it fit two PCs very comfortably, and later for writing my Master’s thesis; all my notes and research could be spread across it and still be within hand’s reach. At moments of despair – and there were a few – I could push them away and lay my head down to have a rest.

We loved the desk so much it came with us when we moved to Melbourne, even to this house, after living at another place in between. We only got rid of the desk when I was pregnant with Riley and we needed to turn the study into Keira’s bedroom. Adam misses having a study and, truth be told, I do too.

So when I was contacted by Super A-Mart to write about their furniture, given free editorial direction as I pleased, I immediately said “Creating Office Spaces”. As most of you know, we’ve just finished our bedroom renovations, and we don’t have an office, either – but if we did, these are two looks I’d be more than happy having.

One: White and Bright

Manhatten 3 piece office bundle

Keira became very interested in this topic after discovering me on the Super A-Mart site while I was researching this post. This is her preferred office package.

As the kid’s rooms – and, thus, our old study – are now blue, the white would be a bright and fresh against that background. It’s a contemporary look, and the retractable keyboard desk adds a little extra work room. (If you don’t actually use it for a keyboard; more and more students seem to be shifting to laptops.)

This package is $729. It makes sense to buy as a package if you consider that to buy the desk individually alone is $399.

Two: Luxurious Wood

Silverwood 4 piece corner office package

Once upon a time, I was in love with the heavy rich reds of wooden bankers desks, ornate and inlaid with leather. Now? I still like wood, but in lighter tones, such is to be found in this Silverwood package set. I also like this one because – surprise, surprise – it has a large desk, and being a corner desk makes ‘zoning’ potential even better (filing/writing/printing). I like the bookcase too – having variable shelving widths would be handy in storing things that mightn’t otherwise go together.

This package is $1149.

Super A-Mart has a great deal of customer service information available on their website, including notices about warranties, terms and conditions, their refunds and returns policy and details about collection and delivery.

Customers can even create their own wishlists to save and share with others. Handy feature for forgetful folk, like me!

Well, that was fun. Fantasy-living Karen, over and out!
