I will be using the last ten days of the #nanowrimoprompt to post linked flash fiction-ish, non-chronologically ordered, pieces here on the blog. I sat down yesterday and started plotting them out, and they felt like they were getting a natural connection. I’m not sure how this will go, but that’s okay! Creativity is messy!

22. A phone call

“Frank, there is a ‘Violet’ on the phone who wants to speak to you.”

“Uh – I don’t know who that is.”

“Well, she’s pretty insistent. Says you should remember her from that conference last month.”

“Oh. Oh her. Yes. She’s from the Sydney office. She should have called the work number.”

“But she didn’t.”

“Huh.”

“And why would she be calling your office, or here for that matter, at 10pm at night, anyway?”

“I don’t know.”

“You look anxious, dear. Is something wrong?”
