I am using the last ten days of the #nanowrimoprompt to post linked flash fiction-ish, non-chronologically ordered, pieces here on the blog. Here is 21 & 22.
23. Waiting
Violet squatted awkwardly over the toilet seat, tilting her pelvis to angle the urine stream with as much precision as possible. She uncapped the stick and stuck it in the flow, taking care not to splash her fingers. This was a skill, she’d discovered. One nobody told you about. It was her third morning of testing – third time’s a charm, she said to herself.
Three minutes later, the second pink line practically glowed in the tiny window. Though, in truth, the result was the same as the first and second test. She just wanted to be sure. And after three days – and three minutes – waiting, she was finally ready to accept the news. And the risks.
So would Frank. He had no choice.
