To start, I’m delighted to be running my Introductory Blogging course again at Writers Victoria. If you’re interested in dipping your toe into this world, or know someone who does, it would be the perfect present to yourself (or them!). Here are the details. I’m giving you some advance notice to get organised.
Winter School – Blogging 1.0: Getting Started
Wednesday 8 July 2015, 10:00AM – 4:00PM
Blogging is a terrific way of developing your voice and can be a powerful platform from which to showcase your talents to readers. Many bloggers have gone on to create careers for themselves, making money, signing book deals and other exciting tales. If you want to start a blog but feel a little overwhelmed and need some guidance, learn the cornerstone concepts such as planning and writing content, social media navigation, audience development and more.
Learning Outcome
• The elements of content creation – what will I write about?
• Content marketing – how do I publicise and promote my blog?
• Social Media – what’s Twitter? Facebook? Do I need to be on everything?
• Time management – what is the best way to use my time?
• Developing goals and prospects – can I write for places apart from my blog?
I’m also a mentor for Writers Victoria – if you’re a local and would like to sit down with me to have a one-on-one meeting about your goals, or if you have specific questions, or you want to create a plan or strategy – I’m yours! Please read this page for more information. I’ll note that the reading that I do in advance can be writing you send me PLUS my looking around at your blog (if you have one) to get some ideas and familiarise myself with your work.
I direct people to the above option first, however I know Melbourne is far and away from a lot of you, so don’t forget I also do Skype consultations. Once my schedule opens up after I return from overseas, I will be doing a special on those, so keep watch!
Last, if you want to push your creative boundaries this year, don’t forget to sign up to be the first to hear when the dates and structure of the ‘My Creative Process’ eCourse.
Exciting times.
