Hello!

Here we are a few days out from our trip and I feel like I need to leave a few reminders and notes before I go. My life over the past few weeks has been led by ‘to do’ lists and meetings (why is March so busy?) and so, along the way, when people have asked if I’ve been excited about the trip, my honest answer has been that I haven’t had a chance! And this is still the case, although when I catch a look at our passports, or some Euro notes that we already have, then the excitement factor does start to dial up a bit.

Both Keira and I have packed (so have the boys – but they had no interest in documenting their clothing), but I will add that my selection has altered just a teeny bit – that looser white top now is long-sleeved Bonds shirt. Plus, those last-minute items of bathers, PJs etc.

What I have managed to do – very important! – is sort out my holiday reading. I’m going to dust off my Kindle, for the sake of saving room. In terms of what I’ve put on there, I already mentioned Tiny Beautiful Things last week, but I also have bought The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton, Les Miserables by Victor Hugo and War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. The last two might be awfully ambitious, given how much we’ll be doing and moving about but realistically, travel or not, if I’m going to read them at all (or not), it will be on the Kindle. I have a physical copy of War and Peace (it is on my Living List), but is so thick reading becomes difficult and unwieldy – not to mention intimidating. Reading it this way will be much easier… although will require just as much concentration, I daresay, to remember all those names!

Another thing – I won’t be taking my laptop. I said I would, to blog and write other pieces, but I decided against it. Mostly because I don’t want to risk breakage/stealing, but also because it is very heavy. We’ll have our iPad, and although I could, it’s not an ideal device to blog from. Long story short, I hope to do check-ins when I can, even if it is from Internet cafes, but I won’t promise anything. I will be doing is post photos/videos to my Instagram and Facebook page, so do stay tuned in to those if you like.

Whether I get to post there, or when I get back, again, here’s the Living List items I’ll be ticking off while overseas:

Explore Paris
Explore Rome
Visit Whitby Abbey
Go on a Jack the Ripper Tour of East London
Visit Gallipoli

That’s a lot! Starting with Paris. Au Revoir! Wish us luck x
