We’re a week into the new year and I hope it’s been treating you well so far.

I’ve already scored myself a scar. See?

Skin check reminder! Panadol on standby for them the anaesthetic wears off.
In case you’re wondering “That looks like an awkward place to have three stitches”, my answer is “Yes, rather!”. Not that I mind – better to be safe than sorry. I’d rather lose a mole than any number of alternatives.

This is also the time when our brains need to wake up from all that indulgence over the Christmas period as we head back to work. I’ve seen a lot of memes and gifs this week of sleepy pandas captioned with similar sentiments. On a day when I was struggling, I popped into the above bookshop to browse the titles and enjoy the company of kindred patrons. It usually helps, as it did this time. If you’re feeling the same way, I suggest you try it.

At New Year’s, we sat together and I asked my traditional question of what goals we all had for the year. I usually hear crickets at this point, so you can imagine my delight when Keira said she wanted to go vegetarian for a week. Just to try. I can’t say my enthusiasm was met by the gentlemen of the household, so we’re in a split ‘his/hers’ meal preparation situation but, on the whole, it’s been easy. Easy!

One last thing I’ll mention is the three-part BBC adaptation of ‘And Then There Were None’, which was shown in the UK over Christmas. Fans of Agatha Christie will be familiar with the plot – but that won’t matter. They’ll still enjoy the story. I know I always have.

I told the hook to Keira: “Ten people go to an island and they all die – but who is the murderer?”. Here’s the trailer if you’d like a peek.

Note: If you don’t know the story or its ending, please please please don’t click through to YouTube to read the comments. To say there are spoilers would be an understatement.

And then there were none
What are you celebrating this week?
