This picture was taken almost two years ago but perfectly depicts what’s happening in our house today. Keira and I are laid up with a cold. Sore throats, sniffles. The usual deal. So we’re snuggled in bed, resting. Though I’ll have to get up eventually to go down and get Riley – he’s due back from his first school camp later. Another milestone down!
What else am I celebrating this week?
- My half marathon running schedule has kicked off pretty well – I was feeling good earlier in the week, so decided to do my long run then. Lucky I did, given what’s happened since. I’ll be able to pick up easily where I left off.
- I loved this piece on Brain Pickings, which shares a Design Matters podcast interview of Amanda Palmer.
(Aside: I can see why the concept of integrated content is becoming so important for creators – it makes marketing much more potent, and dare I say easier, because it is that much more shareable. A post that has copy (words) and an image is pretty standard these days. If you have embeddable content (videos, audio/podcasts), that is much richer PLUS makes your site that much ‘stickier’. For example, that Palmer interview is a touch over 80 minutes – if I was to listen to it on Brain Pickings, which I did, that means I was on there for that long. That’s a HUGE amount of time. Imagine you have a site with a lot of bounce traffic and wanted to turn that around. Employing that one little strategy could make a big difference.)
- Okay, this one is important. You should bookmark this link from New York magazine: The Queens of Nonfiction: 56 Women Journalists Everyone Should Read. A substantive, important list I’m going to work my way through. I’ve only read one before now (Steinem’s). In response to having a few of their pieces highlighted, the Atlantic published their own piece, The Big Canon of Nonfiction Writers, which includes a few more writers from their archives. Now we need an Australian version.
I hope you’ve got lots to celebrate this week.
