The Creative Life Podcast: Episode Eighteen

My guest is Darrell Pitt, author of A Toaster on Mars and the Jack Mason Adventures, a series of five novels including The Firebird Mystery, which was a Notable book in the 2015 CBCA awards. He was the first self-published author for Text Publishing to sign on, and it was the first time they bought the rights to eight books by any author at the same time. Another self-publishing success story! You can find Darrell online at his website and Twitter.

Books Mentioned

  • We go back to the start of Darrell’s journey into self-publishing: the writing process, cover design and more.
  • What made him go down the self-publishing route.
  • How being a traditionally published author now is different to being a self-publisher.
  • What kind of books he read as a child and teenager.
  • Writing rituals.
  • Being Star Trek fans, we discuss which series* is our favourite, and why.

Thank you, Darrell!

* I said ‘season’ in the question and when I was listening back couldn’t believe I made that mistake!
