Adam bought me a lemon tree for Valentine’s Day almost three (I think) years ago and look – it’s doing something!

Because I rarely – on purpose – grow anything in the garden to this extent, let alone fruit trees which are, I hear, trickier let’s just say I’m a) excited and b) really, really wanting to keep this baby going.

Leading me on to my next point: I’m pretty sure it has almost outgrown its existing pot. Here’s a photo to show what I mean.

My question to you green thumbs out there is this the case? Should we have re-potted it? Or is it happy as it is? If we should have done something before now, is it too late? Or would risk stressing the plant while it is budding and potentially do damage?

It’s quite something it has made it this far. As you can see by the number of snail corpses, they strip this bare when they can. The possums have an occasional nibble as well, but the one plus is that they prefer the fresh, yummy, jasmine shoots that are currently covering the back fence.

Over to you – help a girl out?

Edited to add: I’ve dug a big hole in the ground, prepped it with a variety of suitable potting mixes that Adam bought at Bunnings, and put the lemon tree in there. Hopefully the extra space and nutrients will help! Thanks Kim.
