I have my Santa hat on again today, so I’ll get started right away.

We were all excited to get our hands on the ASUS Memo Pad – particularly Adam, as he’s been talking of swapping to an Android device for some time. I’d never used one before, I’m an iOS girl, and was curious to see how the interface worked. I’ve also got an ASUS laptop – and have been very happy with it – and so knew it would be robust from a quality perspective.

ASUS provided a wizard utility to help the initial setup and then it’s a matter of jumping on to Google Play! Good news for those of us who get nervous about what to do when you’re getting a device out of the box for the first time.

Here is a quick spec rundown of the Pad:

• 7-inch tablet
• 10 hour battery life for browsing and video
• Dual cameras: Front 1.2 megapixel and rear 5 megapixel
• Ultra-light and thin, only weighs 302gm and 10.8mm
• Dual speakers for stereo sound effect: special speaker made from metal with increased hardness to enhance audio balance
• Display IPS 1280X800 HD and has a quad-core CPU
• 16GB storage and a microSD card slot for adding up to 32GB more
• Customers also receive 16GB ASUS WebStorage provided for free for a year
• Available from Harvey Norman and all other authorised ASUS retailers
• RRP is $199

(Below infographic gives even greater detail)

There is an almost dizzying amount of apps and widgets which you can use to customise your user experience, depending on what you’re using it for: casual, work, entertainment. I was particularly happy with the battery life; although I wasn’t keeping a close eye on it, I’m almost sure it went for longer than 10 hours. It’s fast – very fast. The kids, as kids do, took to it effortlessly. At an affordable price, this is certainly a contender if you’re in the market for a tablet.

Thanks to ASUS I have two (2) to give away: one white and one blue.
