Goodyear dunlop tyres

Adam turned to me last month and said, “I think it’s time we got the tyres checked on the car”. Luckily, I was able to get into a place straight away. As I explained my request, with a vague “I’m not sure, I think they’re okay” clause, the mechanic came out, bent over beside the car, and immediately stood up again.

“Well, I don’t know about the others, but this needs a new tyre. Like, last month.” He ran his fingers around the circumference. “This is worn down, the tread is practically gone.”

Eventually, I was informed that all four needed replacing. The other three weren’t in as bad condition as the first, but were bad enough. I was surprised; if I’m honest, I thought they were fine. The kids were waiting in the backseat. Well – ‘fighting’ is probably a better description (this was school holidays and they were already sniping at one another). Looking at them I was pleased that I had gone down to check; the ‘what ifs’ always spring to mind after learning about safety situations that require attention.

Also, as any car owner will attest, it turned into an expensive day. I wish I had been aware of Goodyear’s new tyre – the Assurance TripleMax.

It is designed for mid-sized passenger vehicles and has been developed to provide drivers fuel savings (up to $500 worth of fuel savings) by lowering the rolling resistance of the tyre. What’s that, you ask?  Rolling resistance refers to the energy which is lost when a tyre is rolling over a surface. When rolling resistance is lowered less energy is needed to push the car forward—thereby reducing the amount of fuel consumed.

Goodyear has challenged me to come up with three (think: TripleMax) ideas or ways I could spend that potential $500 worth of savings.

As we are in the beginning phase of planning our overseas trip next year, I thought I could describe a ‘perfect day’ in the Yorkshire moors. (Or day(s), depending on how far I can make it stretch!)

1)      Accommodation ($140 x 2)

Gosh, I feel inexperienced (because I am!) when it comes to overseas travel planning. When I’m making up a budget, I’m not sure what we’ll get – if anything – for $140 per night for a family of four. Airbnb might be able to help, but it can be a little intimidating, plus I’ve heard good and bad traveller experiences. I’d like to stop off at Haworth for two nights as we pass through.

2)      Site admittance ($33 approx)

Haworth is the home of the Bronte Parsonage Museum, the area surrounding the inspiration for Wuthering Heights. I’ve always wanted to go – like just about everyone I know, I love the Brontes. Entrance to the museum is 18 pounds. The tourist site has lots of suggestions of other things to see in the region.

3)      Food and transport ($60 x 2 + ??)

Cheap hire car starts at about $60 per day (not including fuel) and not counting food, by my calculations I’m already up to $433 dollars. We could get through a day on $67. Four of us. Three meals? Um, I doubt it.

It’s exciting just thinking about it, but also a little overwhelming. Mostly exciting. I’ll keep you posted!

So, there’s one of my fantasy plans – let’s hoping it turns into reality.
