Tim Minchin

I’ve got a crush on Tim Minchin. I’m a bit shy about admitting my crushes on here anymore, as if some part of me thinks that I ought to have outgrown that kind, or level, of admiration. Luckily that feeling usually gets thrown some serious shade by the ‘Say it and be proud’ side of my nature. And so, here I am, talking about a video that – correct me if I’m wrong – has only gotten some traction in the media thanks to recent word-of-mouth. I first learned about it about a month ago in the way most people do – a friend who lives in the US posted the link to it on Facebook. I watched and thought, “I’m going to file that away in my ‘stuff I’d be happy for the kids to watch when they’re a bit older’ memory”.

But because this blog acts somewhat as a pseudo-memory these days (don’t ask me how often I’ve done a search for something we’ve done/cooked/gone etc), and because some of you mightn’t have seen it yet, I thought I’d go ahead and show his acceptance speech from his honorary doctorate graduation from UWA in 2013. His ‘nine life lessons’ have a little something for everyone.
