friday celebrations

Every Friday during school term, Riley sits down to eat his breakfast and you can almost guarantee that while he’s eating will say at least once, “Friday! It’s almost the weekend! I love Fridays.”

In that same celebratory spirit, I thought I would start up a regular ‘Friday Celebrations’ series, showcasing the sorts of links, discoveries, happy progress or general WINS I’ve made over the course of the week. In sharing the joy, hopefully, you’ll be able to find something to celebrate as well.

Here we go!

  • I’ve passed 55,000 words in my manuscript, taking the total for 20K by 20 June up to a very close 15K with another 8 days to go.
  • I was listening to The Rereaders podcast (link goes to the specific episode) and Tom Doig mentioned in his recommendations a site called YogaGlo. I’ve been wanting to do more yoga, but at home, and YouTube can be a bit hit-and-miss. So I signed up for the free trial and it’s been great. The winter cold hasn’t done the fibromyalgia pain in my hands any favours and apart from the general conditioning factor I’d love to work my way up to some more complex classes. I’m about as flexible as an upright piano at the moment.
  • I watched Saving Mr. Banks on the weekend on Netflix. Now, I’ll say at the first that I wept during this movie and part of me is a little ashamed at the fact. After all, you can’t watch a Disney movie about the very man himself, Walt Disney, and not expect to be mustered towards a specific emotional response – and that penultimate moment indeed comes in his great speech towards the end. What saves the movie – pun intended – is the performance of Colin Farrell and the call for self-forgiveness that Pamela Travers can no longer ignore. The line that says, to paraphrase, that Mary Poppins was never there to save the children always gets me. Watching Mary Poppins, as an adult, you know the hero is Mr. Banks because you can identify with him.

  • And last, here’s the trailer for the new movie adaptation of Macbeth. Fassbender fans rejoice.
