star wars the force awakens

I’m an advocate for giving experiences as gifts, and this year I went pretty big (definitely a very special treat) and bought the family Gold Class tickets to see a little movie you might’ve heard a bit about – Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

My own feelings for the movie can be summed up in this terrific review (warning: contains spoilers), but focusing on that would be rather petulant of me. The kids adored the whole evening (including the movie). The sun was setting as we drove home.

“How will we remember tonight?” asked Riley. “I have to do something to remember it all.”

He said this just as Doncaster Rd road dipped down the hill before the Manningham Rd turnoff. This is a lovely place to view the city, at this hour bathed in the golden light, that night it was extraordinary.

“Look at the view,” I said. “Write it all down if you need to, but even if you don’t – I think you’ll remember that.”

What else are we celebrating this week?

  • School holidays!
  • Get-togethers with friends
  • Excellent report cards
  • The cheering glow of lights on a tree

I’ll report back at Christmas x
