As the southern states brace for the bad weather that’s due to hit over the next few hours, so too are many parents for school holidays. Gosh, they come around quick. But the kids are tired and need a break.
Here’s what I’m celebrating this week:
- There was an interesting piece about the spooky fifth housemate in the televisions show The Young Ones. It also looked at how experimentally subversive it was – and remains to be thirty-five years later.
- At the Guardian, the ‘Poetry can heal – it helped me through depression‘. I agree – it’s helped me through some bad times. From Tennyson’s ‘Maud’ (possibly my favourite work of his):
My life has crept so long on a broken wing
Thro’ cells of madness, haunts of horror and fear,
That I come to be grateful at last for a little thing:
My mood is changed - At the more colourful end of title choices this week, I enjoyed ‘21 Books That Fucked You Up As A Kid‘. Although they missed this one. Because as Choose Your Own Adventure stories went, if you made one false move… curtains time. [“You are dead.”]
What are you celebrating this week?
