Last night at 5.30pm I ran into a low-impact exercise class late and flustered. Throwing down my towel and water, I joined in as best as I could, trying to find a free spot on the crowded floor.

Less than 15 minutes later I was clutching my head, scrabbling at my stuff, and made hasty retreat. The pain was sudden and terrible. Luckily there was an all-hours doctors surgery just up the road I got straight into.

The diagnosis was – as I suspected – an ear infection.

September and I have never really gelled together. We’re not compadres. Last year? With the Flu? Or in 2003 when I spent the better part of it in bed with severe morning sickness?

Like last year, though, this is the worst time to be getting sick. Last year I was organising the release of Surprise! Now I’m still working on those MYSTERIOUS PROJECTS (soon, soon they will be revealed)

(All going well…)

I’m also supposed to be writing a couple of things.

Writing? What’s that? I’ve almost forgotten.

So I’m going to drug myself up and we’ll see what happens.
