After my 10km run in November, I’ve been wondering what my next sporting goal should be. Adam’s got his, the Murray-to-Moyne 24hr bike ride in March. It’s early days yet, but I’ve been thinking of giving this a go:

Why?

Well for the challenge, obviously, and the exercise. Plus to see if I can do it. It also might have a little to do with this Tweet I posted on Christmas Day:

I was horrified. My husband and mother, on the other hand, thought it was great fun. They kept saying things like, “You were slouching” and “You’d just eaten” and “Your shirt had horizontal stripes”. This, as you may have discerned, was their subtle way of agreeing.

Now, I admit, I may be exaggerating the impact the incident has made on my life (for example, it hasn’t made me stop eating chocolate), but it does burn away a little, too.

So if I do run the half marathon, it won’t be because ‘I must lose weight’ but because ‘I want to be fit and healthy’ and if I don’t run it, I will at least do the 10km. But I looked at the Run Melbourne Half Marathon results from last year, and those who run 5km in 30mins (like I do) didn’t finish last. Sure, they were down the bottom end, but they still finished. This gives me hope. I would be proud to be among them and that may yet be.
