The other evening I pulled out a DVD I had borrowed from the library to put on while Adam watched Burn Notice.

What movie is that? he asked.

An old one, I said.

How old? Are we talking Ironman old?

I turned around, aghast. What?! That’s not old.

So is it older than that?

Yes.

X-Men old?

Older.

Original Superman old?

Older.

He paled. Oh, God. It’s not the original Planet of the Apes old, is it?

Older.

Well, you enjoy, he said, turning back to Burn Notice.

(The movie, in case you are interested, was The Adventures of Don Juan. I have a weakness for Errol Flynn movies, and I honestly just like spotting the recycled bits of action footage it seemed to cut and paste out of Robin Hood.)
