One of my favourite Top Gear episodes is their road trip across the bottom of Africa. If you’ve also seen it you might recall the scene where, as the three of them watch the moon rise over the Kalahari Desert, there is this exchange:

James May: I know a Philip Larkin poem about the moon. Would you like to hear it?
R. Hammond and J. Clarkson (in unison): NO.

I’ve often thought, ‘Well, I’d like to hear it’ and wondered about the name of the poem. Last night I did a little digging on Google and I think it is ‘Sad Steps‘.

There! I feel better now.
