This morning, thanks to Disney, we went along with a whole bunch of other bloggers and guests to an advance screening of the new Pixar movie, Brave. There was highland dancing, bagpipes and the usual mega-long queue for face-painting. The children were much more patient than I ever would’ve been and waited their turn; Riley got the Scottish flag on his cheek and Keira got this pretty scotch thistle.

At the Movies

That’s my dress Keira is wearing. Yes, really. IT BEGINS.

I don’t want to give away too many spoilers, so I won’t go into the plot, but suffice to say I found it very moving in the way it explored the mother/daughter relationship, acknowledging its complexities and tensions. During the climatic battle, Keira and I were holding hands and that’s a moment I’ll remember. Along with how much I cried.

But I’ve been feeling a bit flat lately. So maybe that’s why.

In the afternoon, I chopped vegetables as I looked out my kitchen window at the mist and rain as it passed over my suburb. Then I turned it into potato and corn chowder. Another recipe down. And boy it was good.
