It was a wonderful night, full of genuine warmth and bonhomie. I was freezing sitting up the back of the room in a draft; however that wasn’t the reason why I kept trembling. It was nerve-wracking, sitting there listening to an actor read your story and wondering what all the other people thought of it. Apparently, afterwards, it sparked a tiny bit of discussion. I’m not all that surprised, considering the subject matter.

Here’s the judge’s report:

“Desperate choices born of decisions nobody would choose to make underscore this affecting story of a mother trying with all her might not to lose herself entirely when an unplanned pregnancy shatters the life she’s only just keeping under control. Moving and tautly-written, every detail rings true in this piece.”

Here I am with the judge, Cate Kennedy. It was delightful to meet her.
